History of The Glebe Centre

Comex (Walsall) Ltd began as an initiative by local christian churches in order to help the homeless, unemployed and generally disadvantaged people of Walsall.

The Glebe Centre was established in 1975 in a purpose built centre on the Wednesbury road, corner of Glebe street, Walsall. Monthly church services take place the first Tuesday of every month at 1:30pm and a Sunday school service operates every Sunday morning.

The Glebe Centre operates an open door policy, no referral is needed in an independent caring centre for disadvantaged vulnerable and homeless people over the age of 18 where upon a number of core services are available. Including: Subsidised Meals, Snacks and Drinks, Free Showers with toiletries, Free Clothing, A safe warm and welcoming place where staff are on hand to assist with any form filling or sign posting to external agencies if required.

2009 saw a dark year for the centre after the funding from a number of funders ended and the centre faced closure but with the help of donations by churches and individuals as well as a number of press releases in local papers highlighted the problems the centre and its workers faced. Without the help of donations the Glebe Centre would not exist to carry on the good work it does today. Many individuals have downloaded our donation standing order form and give on a one off basis or regular monthly donations, if you feel you would like to contribute please download our standing order form from
